Here at Search Scientist we build a lot of our websites on the WordPress CMS platform, which we tend to favour for our brochure and non-ecommerce builds. In this article I will highlight some of the key benefits of the WordPress CMS.
Ease of use
A lot of our clients like WordPress due to it’s ease of use because it has a very short learning curve. You can also manage your website from any computer due to the platform being server based, so it’s just a case of logging in online.
YOU have full control
Have you ever found yourself waiting weeks for your web designer to make a simple update to your website? With WordPress, as an open source platform, there is no limit to what an owner can control on their website. Owners can login to make the changes that they desire quickly and effortlessly. With a bespoke CMS (one that is built in-house) adding additional features to your website can sometimes be costly if it was not factored in during the planning stages.
Customisation
The platform is 100% customisable allowing you to design a website as unique as you would like. Years ago WordPress websites looked very similar but now that more and more users have adopted the platform it is one of the main trend setters with many visually beautiful designs. On top of this there is an abundance of plugins to increase functionality, which serve nearly every purpose from CAPTCHA forms to backups.
Built-in blog
Originally built as a blogging platform, you get a state of the art blogging tool, which means that you get RSS, commenting functionality and email subscriptions straight out of the box. Posting a blog on WordPress is as easy as writing an email and it is very easy to add media. The blogs are very SEO friendly also.
SEO Friendly
WordPress is built from top to bottom with SEO in mind. The structure of the URLs with the addition and easy use of tags means that the structure of your website can be highly tailored for targeting keywords. The code is clean and easy to read, which makes it a very straightforward task for search robots to crawl your website’s content. All pages can be optimised to a very high level with the use of meta tags, particularly with the WordPress SEO plugin. Overall the SEO benefit alone is one of the main selling points of WordPress.
Responsive Design
With more and more people surfing the web on the go using their phones and tablets it’s essential that you tap into this market and ensure that your website can adapt to different screen sizes. Not only is this a ranking factor for Google for mobile searches but it is also important for helping increase conversions.
